WHO started it all?
It all started with Lead Pastor Robert Nigro and his wife, Sandy along with four other families. One of those four families was Pastor Vince and his wife, Valma. Our very first service was on April 4th 1998 of those that came that first service and are still here are Kevin and Veronica Boyer – (they weren’t married then), Ruby Cole & Pat and Joanne Fuller. Basically our first harvest field was Valma’s family – (Veronica, Ruby & Joanne are all Valma’s sisters).
WHAT were they thinking?
That they would start a church not to compete with the many fine churches already established in the area – but for those people who were not currently attending a church because they see church as too boring, too intimidating, or just not relevant to their stressed-out, hyper-speed lives. Not to mention those who weren’t in church because they felt unworthy, unloved and unlovable.
WHEN did FLCF open its doors?
The whole process began in 1998, but it was not until May of 2001 that FLCF became its own independent church. Truth be told, the whole thing started without much fanfare. There were no drums. No music. No dramas. No media presentations. Just people. In the early years Pastor Robert did most of the set up, led worship, took the offering, preached the message and prayed for families at the alter. Wow, have we come a long way or what?
WHERE did this church first take root?
In Robert and Sandy’s living room with about 10 people. In the past 10 years FLCF has called many places home. Including the YMCA, a store front, a middle school, Pomerado Elementary and our present home, Dingeman Elementary. Can you spell G-R-O-W-T-H?
WHY do we do what we do the way we do it?
It’s simple: people matter to God. Even if they don’t know it yet. So we strive to meet them in their comfort zone, with messages that deal with their everyday challenges, hopes and heartbreaks. And in ways they can relate – We say all the time “We’re real people living in a real world with real problems, but we serve a real God." We believe God is present in all things, at all times. You just have to open your eyes.
